THE PROJECT

Parkinson’s disease is the second most common age-related neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s disease. An estimated seven to 10 million people worldwide have Parkinson’s disease. These faces and their stories are what the "I AM" The Face Of Project is all about.

"I AM" The Face Of Parkinson's

More than 10 million people worldwide are living with PD. An estimated four percent of people with PD are diagnosed before age 50. Men are 1.5 times more likely to have Parkinson's disease than women.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative brain disorder that progresses slowly in most people. Symptoms can take years to develop, and most people live for many years with the disease. The symptoms caused by Parkinson’s include an ongoing loss of motor control (resting tremors, stiffness, slow movement, postural instability) as well as a wide range of non-motor symptoms (such as depression, loss of sense of smell, gastric problems, cognitive changes and many others).*

Parkinsonism is a general term that refers to a group of neurological disorders that cause movement problems similar to those seen in Parkinson’s disease such as tremors, slow movement and stiffness. Under the category of parkinsonism there are a number of disorders, some of which have yet to be clearly defined or named.*

"I AM" The Face Of Project

The purpose of this project is to share the beautiful faces and stories of individuals with Parkinson's. These stories can and do speak volumes of inspiration, motivation, and empowerment to other individuals in, or not, in their shoes.

The next "mini" project is a Sidekicks Project hosted by the Davis Phinney Foundation.

The next project is in part with the Davis Phinney Foundation Victory Summits in Baton Rogue and Albany. Stay tuned from some amazing faces and stories!

I know you have a beautiful face and amazing story to tell. Please share - iamthefaceofproject@gmail.com
